Welcome to the RIB Joint. A blog discussing science issues with an emphasis on health physics and agnotology. We'll try to keep 'em honest. So dig in!

Fracking Leads To Radioactive & Hazardous Waste Spread

Cells Phones Don't Increase Brain Cancer Risk
Large Australian study fails to find cause and effect.
And guess what? These "undies" won't protect you from something that isn't harmful to begin with.

Predicting The Health Consequences Of Nuclear Terrorism Scenarios
With Dr. Timothy Jorgensen of Georgetown University. Refreshing to watch some sound health physics being discussed:

You Just Can't Make This Up!
Creationist Kent Hovind is debunking the claim that the Earth is flat!
(This the first of several videos, but do you really want to watch them?)
I guess it's a form of progress!

Some More Radiation Biology
From the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. I wish the speaker hadn't included hormesis or referred to LNT as a hypothesis. But she did. Otherwise, pretty well done:
The INWORKS Study
Here's the study, mentioned in the video within my previous post.
Funny, I've never heard a DeNiAr mention it!

The Health Physics Society Is SORRY
Oops, I meant SARI. On page 16 of the May, 2016 newsletter it says:
"Sunday evening concluded with dinner at the Hotel Santa Fe (where the chocolate cake is deadly!) and a fascinating talk by Mark L. Miller, CHP, PhD. Mark discussed his involvement with Scientists for Accurate Radiation Information (SARI) and concerns about the harm done by endorsing the linear no-threshold (LNT) theory."
Hello! A scientific theory is a scientific theory! You overturn a theory with evidence! If you don't have the evidence to overturn it, you endorse it. That's how science works.
The consequences of accepting a scientific theory, have to be dealt with. But one doesn't deal with the consequences by denying the science.

50 Years Of Scientific Challenges To Evolution
And none have succeeded to overthrow the theory, you IDiots:
Climate Change Denier "Teaches" At University
That would be the scholarly Prager University, on YouTube. Richard Lindzen, you won't earn any Nobel Prizes by misleading people on YouTube. But, then, science is not your speciality:

Merchants Of Doubt
From one of the book's authors, Naomi Oreskes. The interview is from 2014, but the videos recently posted :
What's It Like To Live Near Chernobyl Today?
Nice photos. (Notice the article includes the 4,000 death estimate! HA!)
American Nuclear Society Promotes DeNiAl
They reprinted some propaganda from DeNiAr James Conca which first appeared on that wonderful, scholarly scientific journal/website Forbes. I responded within the Forbes masterpiece (I won't link to it here) and I responded to the ANS website.
My comment asked the question as whether or not the ANS really wanted to promote science denial.
My comment has been held in moderation.
So I guess my question has been answered.

"Strange Glow"
A book about radiation fears.
Of course, one of the reasons people fear radiation is because there are some other people who are intent to manufacture propaganda meant to induce fear in the public. I don't know if the book covers that important aspect.

"Make An Argument You Can Get Killed On, And You Will Kill Us All"
My post title is a quote from global warming denier Pat Michaels (beneficiary of Cato Institute funding) who is in the 2008 video below. Though he is a global warming denier, he is explaining to his audience, that the Earth is actually warming.
His point, is that arguing that the Earth isn't warming, is an "argument you can get killed on". He is encouraging his audience to take more deceptive means to stall any sort of legislative action on global warming.
His audience? The global warming deniers at Heartland Institute.
IDiots Are STILL Idiots
IDiots (Intelligent Design propagandists) are still manufacturing anti-evolution nonsense thanks to the Discovery Institute's donors:

The Health Physics Society Provides Venue For DeNiArs

On this Heartburn Imbecile live cast in March intended to MUDsling global warming.
(MUD = Manufacture Uncertainty & Doubt on the science)
There Ain't No Chernobyl Heart
There was a 2003 documentary by the name "Chernobyl Heart", which tried to connect heart damage in children to radiation from Chernobyl. But no real epidemiology was used. So what's up with this guy?

Is There Really A War On Science?
It depends on the science.
In my opinion, if there is an organized and well funded stink think tank involved in manufacturing anti-science propaganda, we have "war".
If it's just some individual whacko seeking attention, we have a loser.

Hey, What About Radiation "Truthers"?
You know, the ones who claim to really know the truth(TM) about radiation, that it doesn't cause cancer.
They got no specific mention in this article. Poor DeNiArs.

Radiation Safety For Consumer Products Guide
From the IAEA. Because some pro-nuclear people don't deny that radiation is a carcinogen, sorry SARI.
Does Radiation Really Cause Cancer?
Not if you're DeNiAr James Welsh and accomplices (who just happen to by SORRY SARI members).

Ionizing Radiation Safety

Bill Sacks Is A DeNiAr
He thinks radon doesn't cause lung cancer, thanks to the long discredited, former Marshall Institute beneficiary, Bernard Cohen radon study.
And of course, quick to comment are other DeNiArs, who must be frequent readers of the Green Valley News (out of Arizona, USA). Allison (UK) and Cuttler (Canada) really should get a life.
Of course, they are all members ofSORRY SARI.
