Chernobyl Wildlife

Tim Mousseau is a solid researcher.  It's a shame to have to listen to him via Dr. Helen Caldicott.  But he is worth listening to.  He has performed many studies of the Chernobyl ecology.

One of the "arguments" I've frequently encountered from pro-nuclear folks is that the Chernobyl ecology is thriving.

Dr. Wade Allison seems to think this is a basis for rethinking radiation safety limits.  Of course, parts of an ecology can thrive if humans leave, even if the area is contaminated.  Humans are more harmful to most species than radioactivity.  But even if many species have more reproductive success (ie, thrive), that doesn't mean they are healthy.  And of course, not all species will thrive.  Those that are more radiosensitive will have smaller populations.  One can't just drive up to a spot, see a bunch of wildlife which wasn't there previously because humans were, and assume that all is well.
