Fukushima - Put Children Before Politics

Here's a rather odd editorial on the subject from the Japan Times (republished from Sentaku Magazine).

I say it's odd because the author seems to know many details...like what radionuclides are involved, what they emit, what their half lives are, etc.

Yet the author seems ignorant in other areas like why state that iodine can spread quickly to other areas once in the thyroid?  Most of it does not, but even if it did, that would be good.  Most iodine concentrates in the thyroid, which has a small mass.  The thyroid gets bombarded by radiation and this is why thyroid cancer is such a predictable outcome of a nuclear event.  If there was any significant spread of iodine from the thyroid to other areas, the thyroid would not be so endangered.

And what about, in regards to Cs-137, " the fact is that little scientific research has been done on the matter".  That's just ignorance (willful?).

The author states that 51% of some children had shown signs of internal contamination from Cs-137, but fails to mention the amounts.

The author has no problem chided others about their responsibilities.

What about his/hers in delivering objective facts?
