Thousands Of Sv's To See Some Sort Of Radiation Syndrome

This video was uploaded last February, but I've just come across it.  The expert says that it takes thousands of Sieverts (Sv) to see some sort of radiation syndrome.  I think he confused Sv's with rem:

  1. This is weird! How could an "expert" mistake sieverts for rems? That's about as basic a distinction as it gets???
Furthermore, the ending statement seems inaccurate: if I'm not mistaken, 3mSv/yr is the mean yearly dose including artifical (mainly medical) irradiation, not the mean yearly natural background dose.

    1. In the U.S. 3 mSv/yr is the mean yearly natural background dose. If one includes artificial irradiation, the mean jumps to around 6 mSv/yr.

    2. I had never noticed the gap between the US figures and the world average, thanks for correcting me!
